Mahjong Solitaire: play free online with big tiles
Mahjong Solitaire is a calm tile matching game for one player. The tiles are stacked in several layers, and the goal is to clear them all, two at a time. Here the tiles are big and clear, every tile has a small helper label in the corner, and every game can be solved. There is no sign up and no time pressure.
How to play
- Find two matching tiles that are both free.
- A tile is free when no other tile lies on top of it, not even partly, and it has an open side to the left or to the right.
- Tap the first tile. It gets a yellow border.
- Tap the second tile, and the pair disappears from the board.
- Keep going until every tile is gone. Tap Hint to see a possible pair, and Undo if you want to go back a step.
Tips for clearing the board
- Take tiles from the tall stacks and the long rows first, so more tiles open up.
- If three or four matching tiles are free, think about which pair opens the most new tiles.
- Turn on "Show free tiles" under New game if you want help spotting tiles you can pick.
Frequently asked questions
What do I do when there are no more matches?
It happens to everyone, even experienced players. Tap Undo and try a different way, or tap "Shuffle the remaining tiles". The tiles that are left get rearranged so the game can be solved again.
Which mahjong tiles match?
Two tiles match when they are exactly the same: the same suit and the same number or symbol. Dots 3 matches dots 3, and East wind matches East wind. Flowers are the exception, because all four flowers match each other. The same goes for the four seasons. The small number or letter in the corner makes it easy to see which tiles belong together.
Can every Mahjong Solitaire game be solved?
Yes. Every board is built backwards, with the tiles laid out pair by pair, so there is always at least one way to clear them all. You can still pick a path that closes up, but then you can undo or shuffle the remaining tiles.
What is the daily mahjong?
The daily mahjong is the same board for everyone who plays that day. Pick it under New game. You can also make the tiles bigger with the A, A+ and A++ buttons.
