FreeCell Solitaire: play free online with big cards

FreeCell is one of the most loved solitaire games ever, and many people know it from Windows. Every card is face up from the start, so the game is about planning, not luck. Here the cards are big and clear, so you can relax and play on a tablet, phone or computer. There is no sign up, and the game remembers where you left off.

How to play

  1. The goal is to move all 52 cards to the four foundations in the top right corner. Each foundation holds one suit, built up from ace to king.
  2. The tableau below has eight columns with every card face up. Here you stack cards in descending order and alternating colors, for example a black 9 on a red 10.
  3. In the top left corner are four free cells. Each cell holds one card that you want out of the way for a moment.
  4. Tap a card and it jumps to the best spot by itself. If it can go to a foundation, it goes there first. Otherwise it tries a column and then a free cell. You can also drag cards with your finger or mouse.
  5. You can move a whole run of cards at once if you have enough free cells and empty columns. The number above the table shows how many cards you can move right now.
  6. An empty column can take any card or any run of cards.
  7. Cards that are no longer needed in the tableau go to the foundations by themselves. Stuck? Tap Hint. Undo has no limit.

FreeCell tips

  • Free up the aces and twos early.
  • Use the free cells sparingly. A full cell is a locked cell.
  • An empty column is worth gold, because it doubles how many cards you can move at once.

Frequently asked questions

Is every FreeCell game winnable?

Almost. With four free cells nearly every game can be solved if you think ahead. Among the first 32,000 game numbers only one, game #11982, cannot be solved, and we skip it when we shuffle. If you choose three or two free cells, the game gets harder and more deals cannot be won.

Are these the same game numbers as Microsoft FreeCell?

Yes. The game numbers here match the classic FreeCell numbers from Windows, so game #1 is the same deal you remember. Pick Game # under New game and type any number from 1 to 1,000,000.

How many cards can I move at once in FreeCell?

It depends on how much space you have. Each free cell lets you move one more card, and each empty column doubles the number. With four empty cells and no empty columns you can move five cards. The number is always shown above the table, so you never have to work it out yourself.

What is the daily FreeCell deal?

The daily deal is the same game for everyone who plays that day. It uses four free cells and changes at midnight. Pick it under New game and compare your number of moves with family and friends.

Why is FreeCell called Napoleon in Denmark?

In Denmark most people call this game Napoleon, while in English and in Windows it is called FreeCell. The rules are the same: eight columns, four free cells and four foundations.
